Starting in beautiful Sandpoint, Idaho

I'm Mel Dick, and I've got roughly 10,000 miles (maybe more) of bike riding ahead of me.

If you've come to this web site, you've likely arrived here through a story you read or an e-mail someone sent you. I hope you've come to get involved, because I'm about to take off on a cross-country bike ride. For me it's to fulfill a dream, but I have other ambitions for it, too. Specifically, I want to raise money for the good work of the Panhandle Alliance for Education and their new early childhood literacy program.

My ride starts on June 1 in Sandpoint. First I head west, to get to the northwestern most point in the U.S. Then I turn south and east, headed to the southeastern most point in the U.S. at Key West. You can click the Route button at left to see my intended route (though weather or road conditions may call for a few alterations once I'm on the move). I'll be blogging my experiences here, hopefully a couple times or more a week, or as often as I can ride across a good Internet connection.

Right now I invite you to look around my website. And I hope you'll consider donating to the cause. In fact, why not click that Donate button right now?

If you want to put a comment of your own up here, scroll down just below the map and click the Comments link. And be sure to check back from time to time to see my new posts.
